Initiated in 2011 and becoming operational in 2013 the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) is the not for profit charity of Sydney Catholic Schools, Archdiocese of Sydney. The foundation offers support to families via the bursary program. Corporate partnerships, community grants, an annual fundraising events program and donations all play a pivotal role in raising much needed funds to continue to sustain the foundation bursary program.
The establishment of the Catholic Education Foundation began in 2011 when a Sydney Catholic Schools’ colleague told a story about a large family who had lost their home in a devastating fire. The family indicated that due to their loss they would not be able to afford to continue to send their children to a Catholic school. It became apparent that there was no structured organisation at that time that could provide the family with the school fee support and other assistance that they needed to keep their three children at the local Catholic school, and preserve the family’s dignity at the same time.
It was with this sentiment in mind, that the Catholic Education Foundation, Sydney (CEF) was created. The CEF honours the Archdiocese of Sydney’s commitment to ensure that no Catholic child is denied the opportunity for a Catholic education due to genuine financial, social or cultural hardship.
The CEF can help families afford a Catholic education in one our 150 primary or secondary Catholic schools in the Sydney Archdiocese, via our school fee support program.
Since our first financial bursaries were awarded in 2013, our school fee support program has grown to include bursaries for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, newly arrived refugee students and students in foster care.
Catholic children, no matter what their background or circumstance, are entitled to the best education that our country can provide. We are acutely aware of the many needs within our Sydney Catholic School communities for some form of assistance, and we expect that this need will continue to grow in coming years. Therefore, your ongoing support of the CEF is deeply appreciated and can never be underestimated.
